Rest in Peace – Dan Fogelberg
December 17, 2007 by Gayla McCord

Dan Fogelberg, the singer and songwriter whose hits “Leader of the Band” and “Same Old Lang Syne” helped define the soft-rock era, died Sunday, December 16, at his home in Maine after battling prostate cancer at the age of 56.
There aren’t many of us over 35 who don’t experience an emotional jolt whenever we hear “Just for a moment I was back at school, and felt that old familiar pain” which usually causes us pause on a late December night. Visions of the 80’s flood our minds along with memories of our own lost innocence. Our busy lives sweep us away and suddenly the song finds us somewhere in time. The lyrics capture us, the tune embraces us, the memories haunt us – in the most sacred corners of our hearts. Occasionally we feel the wounds of young love and broken hearts reopen and find ourselves weeping for the love we once knew.
Same Old Lang Syne will forever be the ballad that causes everyone pause and reflection on the what if in our lives.
In honor of Dan Fogelberg, can you share a personal experience or memory that may be tied to one of his songs?
Rest in Peace Dan Fogelberg, you’ll be missed.
