All That Glitz! A Night at the Oscars

March 6, 2006 by Gayla McCord

I’ll admit, I chose a rerun of Cold Case and Criminal Minds over The Oscars – mostly because The Oscars are the awards that are given to the films that receive two thumbs up by critics. That’s usually the big red flag to me that it’s not a movie I’m going to enjoy.

I bought into all the fuss surrounding the movie “Walk the Line” and all the statements from others who had seen it, that “even IF a person didn’t like Johnny Cash – they’d still like the movie.” NOT True! I didn’t like it – in fact, we broke in the middle of it to clean Kitchen Cabinets. I still haven’t seen the ending of it and most likely won’t. I think this one will be making trip back to Blockbuster for whatever trade-in value it’s worth. And I wouldn’t be shocked if they charged me for taking it back.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore Reese Witherspoon! I think she’s one of the greatest! I’ve only found one movie, this one, that I’ve never liked – so that’s a good run in my book.

I took a gander at the list of winners this morning over on The Washington Post and was pleasantly surprised to see that FINALLY Brokeback has burned out! I’m so sick of hearing about that movie that even watching it for no other reason than its Jake Gyllenhaal appeal isn’t likely to happen. However, Jarhead comes out on DVD tomorrow, so I think I’ll stick with watching Jake in a manly man role. Regardless – win or lose – Jake is one hot tamale in my book.

So, I’ve admitted I didn’t watch. What about you? Where were you while the Oscar Awards were being handed out?

Lastly, what is it with Pamela Anderson? Can someone explain just why someone that tacky makes it on the invitation list of so many parties or do you think she may be offering favors in exchange for skating in as someone’s guest?

After she and Kid Rock were thrown out of The Kentucky Derby a few years ago, I’m surprised she makes it onto any invitation list anywhere beyond PoDunk.

If you’re looking for pictures from last nights Oscar event, check out Film Gecko, Leora has gathered some of the best I’ve seen.
