Danica Patrick gets married

November 29, 2005 by Gayla McCord

Patrick marries physical therapist Paul Hospenthal: Although Danica Patrick got plenty of publicity for her season in the IRL, she certainly doesn’t want much for her wedding.

The 23-year-old driver, who finished fourth in the Indy 500, and Hospenthal, 40, were married on Nov. 19 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The two had met while Danica was seeking treatment for a hip injury.

Patrick, the Indy Racing League Rookie of the Year and only woman to lead a lap at the Indianapolis 500, will be joined by stock-car racer Leilani Munter and drag racer Melanie Troxel. The three will be Hostess “Race Divas,” promoting Twinkies, Cup Cakes and Donettes brand snacks.

Interstate Bakeries, the maker of Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread, signed sponsorships with Patrick and two other female race drivers, its first deals with athletes in more than 20 years.

Interstate said its target market is mothers and that its research found a third of all racing fans are women.
